 Research Interests
The interaction of the immune system and adrenal gland. Specific emphasis is on the mechanisms of cytokine-mediated regulation of the release of adrenal steroids. Interleukin-6 (IL-6) increases the release of cortisol from the adrenal zona fasciculata and decreases the release of adrenal androgens from the adrenal zona reticularis. These effects of IL-6 are mediated by the activation of AMP dependent kinase and the family of nuclear receptors AP-1.
