Biography
Kathy Porter was born in Challis, Idaho, a little mining town that occasionally booms then dwindles to a few hundred people. Kathy lived in Idaho, Utah, and Nevada finally settling down in Boise, Idaho, where she graduated from Boise High School. She graduated from BYU with an AD in Nursing while Jim was on his mission. Worked as an RN at least on call throughout their marriage. Went back to school to obtain a BS is Psychology in 2005. She has 7 children and 26 grandchildren, living in the Netherlands, North Carolina, Kansas, New Mexico, California, and Utah. Kathy loves to travel the world visiting the kids. Loves to quilt. Has served as president of the Utah Valley Quilt Guild and The Utah Quilt Guild, as well as the Knotts Bee. Has won actual awards for her quilts. Loves serving in Primary, the only true calling.

James Porter was born in Sacramento, California, where his family had moved for a “few Years”, always anxious to get back to Utah. Graduated from Ygnacio Valley High School in Concord, California. Dean Porter served an LDS mission to Korea. He married Kathy Ziegler 6 weeks after returning from his mission. Dean Porter attended BYU for BS and MS degrees. PhD from UC San Francisco, in Endocrinology. Dean Porter did his Post Doctoral work at University of Iowa. His first real job was at University of Louisville, in Louisville, KY, teaching at the Medical School. 13 years later moved to Utah to teach at BYU. He has served as Dept Chair, Associate Dean, and is presently the Dean of the College of Life Sciences. Did Cardiovascular research with rats, which explains why the kids called him a Rat Doctor. When he and his family moved to Utah, 4 of his children were attending BYU. Since then 6 of out 7 of his children have graduated from BYU and the 7th is working on it. Dean Porter has been involved in finishing the basement and various remodeling and furniture building endeavors as instructed by Kathy. He loves keeping up with children and grandchildren, and watching BYU sports, and … well.. any sports. He really, REALLY loves to cruise. He also loves serving in the church, even when called as Cub Master.
