Overview:
The College of Life Sciences provides an online safety training program that meets OSHA guidelines for general safety training of personnel working in the research labs in our college. Training materials are accessed through the blackboard organization “Life Sciences Safety and Compliance.” The training provides information on both chemical and biological hazards that might be encountered during the course of mentored research or in a teaching laboratory. This training needs to be completed only once while working in the College.
The safety training contains three elements: A PowerPoint presentation “Life Sciences General Safety Training”, safety training test, and safety training agreement. After the training test has been completed with a score of 85%, the agreement becomes available. By completing the agreement, you state that you understand the University and College expectations of lab safety standards and that you agree to abide by those standards. This agreement can be printed and given to faculty for their records if required.
Secondary training will be provided by the faculty members for the specific hazards that will be encountered while working in their labs. This training should be reviewed annually by all lab personnel. The College is committed to providing all students, faculty and visitors the information and resources they need to conduct their research in a safe and productive environment.
