What is an internship?

An internship is an off-campus experience working/researching/shadowing within an organization, supported by a
 mentor, to enhance career preparation. Sometimes you are paid, and sometimes you are not. You can enroll in a
course to receive university credit for your internship.

Why Should I Do An Internship?
Most employers are seeking previous EXPERIENCE in addition to your degree.
An internship can:
-increase marketability to employers
-develop professionalism and increase confidence
-expand networks
-assist the transition into a career
-define a career choice
-open an opportunity for a job offer
-increase starting salary


 How Do I Begin?
1. Budget time each week during fall semester to conduct Internet searching, if you want a summer internship
2. Update your resume
3. See your department internship coordinator
4. Talk to returned interns
5. Inform ALL of your networks, including family, friends, social networking sites, that you are searching for an internship.
6. Plan on filling out applications during Christmas break because most deadlines are in January/February
