Fires

Fire

All fires (even small, extinguished fires) must be reported to the BYU Fire Marshall. Provide dispatch with all known information including the cause of the fire, what is burning, hazards in the area, etc.

Small Fire (Trash can size or smaller)

• Call 911, if needed.
• Alert people in the area.
• If trained, use fire extinguisher.
• Always maintain an exit path.
• Avoid smoke or fumes.
• Never attempt to extinguish a fire on your own, always have a partner.

Large Fire

• Pull the fire alarm.
• Evacuate the building. Do not use elevators!
• Call 911 from outside the building.
• Report to designated emergency assembly point.
• Report names and possible locations of missing group members to BYU Police or responding fire fighters.
• Do not re-enter the building unless cleared by BYU Police or Risk Management and Safety.
