Molecular Biology

Program Overview

Molecular biology is the basic science that aims to explain life processes at the subcellular and molecular levels. Recent years have seen explosive advances in the study of DNA and molecular genetics, including genome sequencing and editing. Developments in molecular biology have opened new areas of study and provided powerful techniques that are revolutionizing the pharmaceutical, medical, and agricultural industries. Molecular biology has helped spawn new industries in biotechnology and opened avenues for answers to basic and applied questions in the life sciences. This is an excellent major for students who desire advanced degrees in the medical and dental fields, or who wish to pursue graduate-level work in areas such as genomics, bioinformatics, immunology, and drug discovery.
