Skyler Coombs

Skyler was born and raised in Salem, Oregon, and now lives in Payson, Utah, with his wife, Kelli, and their energetic son. Outside of work, he enjoys playing basketball, hiking, mountain biking, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. He is also an enthusiastic fan of The Lord of the Rings and strongly identifies with Hobbits, especially their love of nature, good food, and adventure.

Skyler earned a bachelor’s degree in History with a minor in Political Science from Brigham Young University-Idaho and a master’s degree in history with an emphasis in Public History from Northern Arizona University. He is currently pursuing a Master/PhD in Instructional Psychology and Technology at Brigham Young University. He has worked in higher education for more than a decade, developing experience in academic advising, international student advising, career development, program coordination, and teaching.

Skyler serves as the Senior Director of Career Services and a Career Director for the College of Life Sciences. He enjoys helping students explore career options, pursue internships and other experiential learning opportunities, prepare for employment or graduate and professional school, and recognize how their education and experiences can support meaningful futures. He also teaches career and life design courses and works with faculty, employers, alumni, and campus partners to create opportunities that support student success. One of the most rewarding parts of his work is getting to know students, learning their stories, and helping them recognize and reach their potential.

Skyler advises students in Bioinformatics, Biophysics, Cell Biology, Exercise Science, Genetics, Genomics & Biotechnology, Medical Laboratory Science, Microbiology & Molecular Biology, and Neuroscience.
