Food Insecurity Self-Assessment

Have you experienced or are you currently experiencing food insecurity?

Consider the following statements:

  1. I have restricted my spending on groceries in order to pay rent, other bills, or large, unexpected costs.
  2. I have eaten less than usual or skipped meals to make my food last longer.
  3. I have put off grocery shopping because of transportation issues.
  4. I have purchased inexpensive fast food instead of groceries to address immediate hunger.
  5. I have gone out of my way to attend events with free food because I didn’t have anything at home.
  6. I have worried about food enough to impact my mental health.
  7. I am consistently stressed over where my next meal will come from.
  8. I have purchased inexpensive fast food instead of groceries while waiting for a paycheck.
  9. I have sacrificed my grades in order to work more hours so I could pay my bills.
  10. I have restricted my spending in order to pay for more expensive allergy-friendly foods.
  11. I have lived in my car.
  12. I have couch-surfed for more than a week.

If you have experienced several of these scenarios consistently over time, consider seeking help. Click here to find available resources at BYU.
