Video Contest Criteria

Please carefully read the following instructions, as entries must follow these guidelines to be considered.

Prompts

Choose one of the two following prompts.

Prompt One:

D&C 88:11—And the light which shineth, which giveth you light, is through him who enlighteneth your eyes, which is the same light that quickeneth your understandings.

Create a video that shows how your life science experience inspires greater love for God’s work and creations.

Prompt Two:

Matthew 5:16—Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

Create a video that highlights the good works that come from the life sciences.

Eligibility

The contest is open to all currently enrolled undergraduate and graduate majors in the College of Life Sciences.

Submission Guidelines

You must make the video yourself. Joint efforts are permitted. At least one significantly contributing member must be a student in the College of Life Sciences. Please let us know the names of students contributing to the video so all receive proper credit.
All entries must have been created between September 1, 2023, and September 30, 2024
There is a maximum of 1 entry per person or per group. A submitted video will count as an entry into a drawing for a Life Sciences t-shirt. In joint efforts, each contributing member receives a t-shirt.
AI generated content is prohibited.
Video graphics, music, sound effects must be royalty free. Please see the BYU copyright website for more information.
Files must be .mov or .mp4, 2 minutes or under, and less than 400MB.
- Videos must be at least 1920 x 1080 resolution at 24fps. Vertical videos will not be accepted.
- Video must have following filename format: First Name Last Name.mp4/.mov For example, if my name is Spencer Hall, I would submit my video as SpencerHall.mp4/.mov
Submitting an entry into the contest grants the BYU College of Life Sciences to use the video for online, social media, marketing, and/or other digital promotions.

Deadline

Submissions open on May 1, 2024

Submissions close on September 30, 2024, at 11:59 p.m. MST

Submit videos here. Please allow 3-5 minutes for your file to upload, and refrain from clicking the submit button more than once to avoid repeat submissions.

Judging

Judging begins once the contest has closed. The judging process takes approximately one month, depending on the number of submissions. We will notify winners by email. Please note, the judges reserve the right to withhold any award if no entry meets the predetermined standards.
Right to Refuse Any Entry

The College of Life Sciences reserves the right to refuse any entry.
Prizes

Top submissions will be displayed on monitors throughout the Life Sciences Building from July 2025 to July 2026. Prizes will be awarded as follows:

First Place: $500

Second Place: $250

Third Place: $100

In joint efforts, the individual who submitted the video will receive the prize and is responsible to divide it with contributing members.
