Exercise Sciences Professors Practice What They Teach

BYU Professors and Alumni take the Lead in St. George Competitions

Exercise science professor Dr. Iain Hunter in the EXSC department was the keynote speaker at the St. George marathon and spoke on October 3 2014 the day before the marathon. The following day Dr. Hunter (above left, #4) ran the marathon alongside three BYU alumni. Eager to represent BYU, Hunter and his teammates checked out track uniforms to wear during the race, where they placed 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th overall.

Hunter himself placed first in the master's division of the marathon and fourth place overall, proving that BYU professors practice what they teach. His performance earned him and a guest a trip to Japan, where Dr. Hunter will compete in another marathon. This will be Hunter's fourth time making the trip, having won the St. George Masters three times in previous years.

In addition to Dr. Hunter's achievements, fellow Exercise Sciences professor Dr. Ron Hager has also been earning athletic accolades for the University. Dr. Hager competed in the Huntsman World Senior Games in St. George last month, winning a silver medal in tennis.
