I am delighted to present this special issue of Impact magazine celebrating BYU’s 150th anniversary. In honor of this historic milestone, we are highlighting some of the ways students and faculty in the College of Life Sciences share their light. This is the first in a two-part series and features four of our college’s eight academic units; the other four will be featured in our next issue. We celebrate the gifts of light our students radiate to benefit the world as well as the light they, in turn, receive from others.

In these pages, you will see students and faculty share their light by deepening their understanding of neurodiversity, advancing responsible water management practices, creating a beautiful and sustainable botanical display, and developing a molecular diagnostic approach to improve outcomes for breast cancer patients. These and many other efforts reflect our college’s mission to “cultivate an environment that inspires learning and discovery bathed in the light of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ.”

As BYU marks 150 years of inspiring learning, faith, and discovery, we invite you to join us in celebrating the shared light that points us all back to Him who is the Light of the World.

Warm regards,

Laura C. Bridgewater
