Marilyn was born and raised in Utah, attended Ricks College as a first-gen student, and while working as a resident assistant there, discovered her love for helping and serving others.

Marilyn and her husband Thom have been married for 46 years, have five children and seventeen grandchildren. Her greatest love is gathering her family, playing pickleball, gardening, reading and spending time with friends.

Marilyn has a BS degree in Human Development and Family Studies, a Master of Public Administration (MPA), and a graduate Certificate in Advising. She worked at BYU for a total of 18 years before retiring; at the BYU Salt Lake Center as a supervisor/administrator of testing and advising, and most recently as an academic and career advisor at BYU’s University Advisement Center where she helped students explore major and career paths as well as taught a student development course (STDEV 117 - Career Exploration) for six years.

Her love for advising students brought her out of retirement, for a season, to work at Life Science Advisement while Monica Eastman is on maternity leave. She looks forward to advising students in Exercise Science (O-Z), Cell Biology (H-Z), Biophysics (H-Z), and PWS majors (L-Z).
