When MMBio graduate student Israel Guerrero learned about an outbreak of Chikungunya near his home in Southern Mexico, he went to work.

During her time in the Public Health Department in the BYU College of Life Sciences, Jordan Marshall has had opportunities to travel and conduct important research on social issues such as sex trafficking and the effects of pornography on the brain.

To gain a greater understanding of Chronic Ankle Instability (CAI) development and treatment, two exercise science grad students, Hyunwook Lee (MS) and Seunguk Han (PhD), use technology and motion capture to measure movement of patients.

Experience shadowing doctors, conducting lab research, and volunteering at the Utah Valley Hospital have helped Jacob Smith develop integral skills and prepare for medical school.

In addition to making groundbreaking discoveries in embryonic development, Physiology & Developmental Biology graduate student Micah Ross works to build a better community for BYU graduate students.

Being involved in various clubs and labs, Rachel Hughes has had so many opportunities to conduct research during her time at BYU, even taking her abroad to Germany. The skills she has gained are important preparation for her future career.

Statistically speaking, Biology entomolgy PhD student Gavin Martin, shouldn’t have earned a bachelor’s degree, let alone a master’s degree and a PhD. Climbing personal mountains allowed him to reach new heights in his study of fireflies.

“We are more prone to believe that the children who are quiet and reserved are in need of the most help, but that’s not the case. The kids that are more interactive and externalizing need attention as well, but in a different way.”
